Edward 'Ed' Bell was born at Fort Deposit, Alabama, in 1905. Possibly
the most influential pre-war Alabama blues guitarist and vocalist, he also
recorded using the pseudonyms 'Barefoot Bill' and 'Sluefoot Sam'. His entire
recording profile was laid down between 1927 and 1930 and perhaps his best
known songs were ‘Mamlish Blues' and ‘Hambone Blues'. His is thought to have
died in 1965 whilst taking part in a civil rights march.
